Detailed 6‑Day Machame route Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival & Machame Gate → Machame Camp
Transfer from Arusha or Moshi to Machame Gate for permit processing and final gear checks.
Hike into the dense rainforest, alive with birdcalls, moss-draped trees, and wildlife.
Arrive at Machame Camp (approx. 2,800 m) by afternoon. Dinner served in the dining tent; get to know your fellow climbers and guides.
Day 2 – Machame Camp → Shira Plateau
Climb out of the forest into high moorland terrain, marked by heathers and wildflowers.
Traverse ancient lava flows and ridgelines until you reach the Shira Plateau, one of the highest old volcanic surfaces.

Pause for celebratory photos, then descend first to Barafu to rest and eat, and then continue down to Mweka Camp (approx. 3,100 m) for the night.
